If you’re reading this while taking a quick breather on your route or in between patient rounds, take a second to actually hear this: Thank you.
In a world that seems to move faster every day, it’s easy for the rest of us to take for granted the mail that shows up at our door and the world-class care provided to our nation’s heroes. But we know that behind every delivered package and every veteran’s appointment is a real person. Someone who might be dealing with sore feet, emotional exhaustion, or the stress of a changing workplace. At Federal Benefits Service, we don’t just see the “agency”: we see you.

More Than Just a Job: The Physical and Emotional Toll
Whether you’re a USPS city carrier braving a summer heatwave or a VA nurse managing a high-stress ward, your work is more than just “government service.” It’s physical labor. It’s emotional care. It’s the “glue” that keeps our communities connected and our veterans supported.
We know that by the time you get home, the last thing you want to do is sit down and try to decode a 100-page benefits manual. You’ve spent your day taking care of everyone else. You deserve someone who takes the time to take care of you and your financial future.
The 2026 Landscape: Why This Year is Different
If you feel like your benefits have become a moving target lately, you aren’t imagining it. 2026 has brought some of the most significant shifts in federal benefits we’ve seen in years. Between health insurance transitions and retirement contribution changes, the “old way” of doing things might not work anymore.
The PSHB Transition (For our USPS Family)
If you’re with the Postal Service, you’re now in year two of the Postal Service Health Benefits (PSHB) program. While the goal was to streamline things, the reality is a bit more complex.
- Premium Hikes: Enrollee premiums for PSHB have climbed by an average of 11.3% this year.
- Medicare Part B Requirements: For many postal retirees, enrolling in Medicare Part B is no longer optional: it’s a requirement to keep your health coverage. Navigating this “double coverage” can be a headache if you don’t have a clear strategy.
FEHB Pressure (For our VA & Federal Family)
For our friends at the VA and other agencies remaining in the FEHB, the news isn’t much better on the cost front. Premiums have jumped by over 12% on average this year. When your paycheck stays the same but your health insurance costs more, that’s a direct hit to your family’s bottom line.
The FERS “Shock” and Your Retirement Security
Perhaps the most startling news of 2026 involves the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS). As of April 10, 2026, the Postal Service has temporarily suspended its employer contributions to the defined-benefit portion of FERS.
While this is a “cash conservation” move for the agency, it’s a wake-up call for every employee. It highlights a critical truth: You cannot leave your retirement entirely in the hands of the government. Whether you are at the USPS or the VA, understanding your FERS annuity, your Special Retirement Supplement (SRS), and how they interact with Social Security is the only way to ensure you can actually afford to walk away when the time comes.
Modernizing Your TSP Strategy
The Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is your greatest tool for building wealth, but the rules changed again in 2026. If you are a higher earner (making over $150,000), your “catch-up” contributions now must go into the Roth TSP.
Furthermore, as of January 28, 2026, the TSP finally allowed in-plan Roth conversions. This is a game-changer. It means you can potentially move money from your traditional balance to a Roth balance, allowing it to grow tax-free for the rest of your life. But doing this without a tax plan is like driving in a blizzard without headlights: you might get where you’re going, but it’s going to be a bumpy (and expensive) ride.
We Don’t Just Talk Benefits; We Build Futures
At Federal Benefits Service, we believe that education is the ultimate form of empowerment. We’ve seen too many federal employees reach age 62 and realize they can’t afford to retire because they didn’t understand the “tax “time bomb” in their TSP or how their FERS supplement would be calculated.
We specialize in helping USPS and VA workers bridge the gap between their “official” benefits and their personal financial goals. We help you look at the big picture:
- Health Costs: Balancing PSHB/FEHB with Medicare.
- Risk Management: Ensuring your life insurance (FEGLI) actually covers your needs without being a drain on your pension.
- Wealth Building: Navigating the new 2026 TSP rules to maximize your legacy.
It’s Time for Your “Benefits Physical”
You wouldn’t ignore a check-engine light in your mail truck, and you wouldn’t ignore a patient’s vital signs. Don’t ignore the “vital signs” of your own retirement.
With all the changes happening in 2026: from the recent economic shifts to the PSHB rollout: now is the time to get a professional set of eyes on your numbers.
